"When the Power of Love Overcomes the Love of Power the world will know Peace" -
Jimi Hendrix

I came across that quote on the wall at Glide Memorial church on Xmas day and it really struck a chord.. It had been a few years since I volunteered during the holidays so this year I felt long overdue.

Every morning I am reminded of the grim reality of the down and out as I ride my bike commute to work. As I head down Golden Gate Ave past the Federal Building each morning around 6:30 am, I see the folks rising from their blankets and cardboard, forming lines at St. Anthony's for a meal and the overall feel is truely sickening. Sure many of them are doped out and/or have severe mental illness and are so far gone that chances are miniscule that they will ever survive a life off the street. But there are others as well in the mix....Seems like way to many.

For a while each morning I was greeted by 2 men on the corner " Hi biker Lady" which at first took me by surprise but I immediately waved and smiled. Hmm, I haven't seen those guys in a while. I'll take a look tomorrow.

Holiday Cheer?

Not so sure what these guys are drinkin' or doin' but they look like they have the holiday spirit and are happy to flaunt it. Nonetheless it has nothing to do with my post but I'm sure the eye candy will be appreciated by some of the other bloggers...

Ah yes,
It's Xmas time: Not necessarily my favorite time of year. I guess because I'm not so religiously oriented, consumer consumed, or particularly fond of darkness and cold weather, I don't really get all excited by the hoopla. Although there is one thing I do look forward to....

*******MOVIES*******

There are always a slew of movies that are released at this time vying their last chance at Academy Award contention. I will admit I am a huge fan of seeing movies on the big screen so this time of year is my chance!! Not to mention having a bit more time due to the holiday slowness of work...

This evening I saw the Pursuit of Happyness...... Definitely a tearjerker but an overall feel good flick. I'm sure the true story has been streeeeeeetched by Hollywood but hey that's the movies.. Nonetheless, Will Smith's son Jayden was FANTASTIC. This youngster obviously has acting in his genes and should get a lot of recgognition for his role. There was never a moment where he was out of character. Bravo.

Manana: The Good Shepherd. How can DeNiro, Damon, and Jolie steer us wrong?
Other gotta sees:
Blood Diamond (prepared for violence)
Apocalypto ( curious on Mel's Mayan take)
Letters From Iwo Jima (Clint's Japanese perspective)
Night at the Museum (hey, got to see some silly ones too)
Volver (Almadovar is so over the top)
Babel (Brad Pitt?!)

I duuno, thats a lot of flicks I got on my list. We shall see ;)

A Little R&R is good...............

I couldn't pass up a free trip to Hawaii for 9 days. ( I know poor me) but when I got the opportunity to teach a couple of instructor workshops and classes for a week on the Big Island, I couldn't say no.
80+ degrees and sunshine is my kind of weather and this mediterrean blood is at home.

It was a well needed break, but now it's back to reality...well at least for now. I think a tropical relocation may be in the future.
